AstroPay is increasing its backing of Team Ukraine at the 2022 Maccabiah Games, an international athletic competition for Jewish competitors and Israeli nationals, frequently called the “Jewish Olympics.” With competitors from 80 nations anticipated to participate, Ukraine will be sending a group of 36 athletes to contend in over 40 different sports.
Originating from cities throughout the war-ravaged country, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Dnipro, the team consists of 23 women and 13 men. They will be vying in a range of disciplines, such as fencing, karate, chess, volleyball, beach volleyball, swimming, and track and field.
Mikael Lijtenstein, CEO of AstroPay, conveyed his sense of honor in aiding Team Ukraine. “The Maccabiah Games possess a storied past, and we are incredibly privileged to be a part of Team Ukraine’s experience, particularly during such a challenging period for their nation,” Lijtenstein stated, adding, “I wish them the best of fortune in the competition, and I am confident they will make their country proud.”
Occurring every four years in Israel, this year’s Maccabiah Games are happening in Tel Aviv. Notably, this year represents the first instance a current US president will be present.
Commander-in-Chief Biden made an unexpected visit at the kickoff of a significant athletic competition, supporting a large group of 1400 US competitors. To illustrate the scale, that’s a larger delegation than the US dispatched to the previous year’s Tokyo Olympic Games! The competition will conclude on July 25th.
