The United Kingdom’s Gambling Commission (UKGC) is enhancing its efforts to safeguard young individuals. They recently unveiled substantial revisions to their promotional guidelines, all aimed at fostering responsible gambling practices and mitigating risks for adolescents.
A pivotal modification mandates that gaming entities allocate 20% of their television, radio, and digital advertisements to promoting responsible gaming. This signifies that audiences across these mediums will encounter increased messaging about maintaining control and seeking assistance when necessary.
Furthermore, the UKGC is elevating the target demographic for all online gambling promotions to 25 years old. Consequently, platforms will be compelled to exercise heightened diligence regarding the viewership of these advertisements, significantly reducing exposure among younger demographics.
These adjustments, advocated for by UKGC head Michael Dugher, send a clear message that the sector is dedicated to shielding vulnerable populations, particularly youth. The implementation date for these new regulations is December 1st, 2023.
Our goal is to ensure that our clients utilize responsible gaming features, such as establishing deposit maximums and stepping away from time to time. However, even more crucial is our responsibility to offer assistance to the small number of individuals who may be experiencing difficulties with their wagering activities.
These recently released directives from the International Betting Integrity Association demonstrate our unwavering dedication to elevating benchmarks across the entire sector and guaranteeing we achieve the utmost standards attainable.”
Earlier today, the UK online gambling license of In Touch Games was suspended by the Gambling Commission and the Betting and Gaming Council.
