AstroPay is demonstrating its commitment to aiding Team Ukraine at the 2022 Maccabiah Games, an international athletic contest akin to the Olympics, but exclusively for Jewish competitors and those with Israeli citizenship.
Nearly 10,000 participants from 80 nations will vie for honors in over 40 sporting events. Included in this impressive assembly is a 36-person contingent from Ukraine, a country that has endured unimaginable suffering and strife in recent times. Originating from cities such as Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Mariupol, these 23 female and 13 male athletes will participate in a range of disciplines, including fencing, swimming, and athletics.
Mikael Lijtenstein, the head of AstroPay, conveyed his sense of satisfaction in backing the Ukrainian team, recognizing the importance of the Maccabiah Games and the tenacity of the athletes representing their nation in the face of such hardship. He offered his well wishes for their triumph, highlighting their capacity to ignite national pride.
Conducted every four years in Israel, the Maccabiah Games possess a storied past. The 2022 Games, taking place in Tel Aviv, carry particular weight as they represent the first instance a current US president will be present at the event.
In an unexpected visit, President Biden appeared at the inaugural event for the World University Games, offering a strong statement of encouragement to the 1,400 US competitors present. The American contingent is remarkably substantial, surpassing even the group dispatched to the Tokyo Olympics the previous year. The Games are slated to continue until the 25th of July.
On a separate note, in an effort to bolster global relations, Ukraine’s regulatory body for the national lottery and gaming activities recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding with its corresponding agency in Lithuania.
