Allwyn, the organization slated to assume control of the UK National Lottery, has concluded its purchase of Camelot Lottery Solutions (LS) Group. Camelot LS, formerly held by the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, will now be integrated into Allwyn’s UK business.
This acquisition signifies the culmination of a protracted and disputed period between the two entities. Camelot, the administrator of the UK National Lottery since its commencement in 1994, had vigorously resisted relinquishing control of the lottery. They even initiated legal proceedings against the Gambling Commission’s determination to grant the fourth license to Allwyn. Nevertheless, these endeavors ultimately proved futile.
Notwithstanding the shift in ownership, Camelot LS Group’s leadership structure will persist, guaranteeing a seamless handover. This acquisition clears the path for Allwyn to formally take charge and introduce a fresh chapter for the UK National Lottery.
Not many predicted Allwyn’s audacious acquisition of LS Group, the firm behind Camelot. This strategic maneuver followed Camelot’s unsuccessful bid to retain control of the UK’s National Lottery license.
Early in 2023, the UK Gambling Commission approved Allwyn’s purchase of Camelot LS Group. Allwyn’s chief executive, Robert Chvátal, stated that integrating Camelot would guarantee a smooth handover from the third to the fourth license, combining the knowledge and technological prowess of two experienced lottery entities.
