Century Gaming is significantly expanding its presence in the Reno gaming market with the acquisition of the Nugget Casino Resort for $195 million.
The Colorado-based casino company will pay Marnell Gaming $195 million to acquire the Nugget. This transaction grants Century Gaming a 50% ownership interest in the physical property and complete control of the entity responsible for the Nugget’s day-to-day operations.
The financial structure of the deal is as follows: $95 million is allocated to the property, while $100 million is designated for the operating company. Furthermore, Century Gaming retains the right to purchase the remaining 50% ownership stake in the property in the future.
Goldman Sachs is playing a pivotal role in facilitating this acquisition by providing a substantial financing package of $330 million. These funds will be utilized to cover the purchase price, refinance existing debt obligations, and provide Century Gaming with additional financial flexibility.
The Nugget Casino Resort holds a prominent position in Sparks, Nevada, situated in close proximity to Reno, often referred to as “The Biggest Little City in the World.”
The resort boasts an expansive 50,200 square-foot casino floor, home to nearly 900 slot machines and 29 table games. Additionally, it features over 1,300 hotel rooms and a diverse selection of seven restaurants.
Erwin Haitzmann and Peter Hoetzinger, co-CEOs of Century Gaming, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, noting that they have been actively seeking expansion opportunities in the Reno market. They believe the Nugget aligns perfectly with their portfolio and eagerly anticipate welcoming the Nugget’s team into the Century Gaming family.
We held genuine enthusiasm for this deal’s possibilities. Opportunities to bolster the Nuggets’ already impressive standing have already presented themselves. A seamless integration of the Nuggets with our existing Century Casinos portfolio in the US is anticipated, and we eagerly await the positive outcomes this collaboration will undoubtedly yield.
