A former Macau Legend executive has been indicted for leading a criminal organization.
Macau legal representatives have provided further information regarding the apprehensions made at the end of the previous month for offenses connected to illicit online wagering. Those apprehended included Chan, who was the head and chief executive of the operator Macau Legend, and those managing the high-roller room operator, Tak Chun Group.
Chan stepped down from his position at Macau Legend after his capture.
Prosecutors stated they had conducted a “comprehensive inquiry” into the case after law enforcement detained 11 individuals, including former Suncity chairman Alvin Chau, who were allegedly using Macau high-roller rooms to recruit participants for offshore gambling sites in the Philippines.
Through this inquiry, four more individuals were apprehended and turned over to prosecutors, including two individuals with the surname Chan.
Prosecutors stated one of them, one of two apprehended on January 28, was suspected of not only organizing illicit gambling, but also money laundering and “committing offenses of leading or commanding a criminal syndicate.”
The most severe accusation carries a potential 15-year term behind bars.
The apprehension in question probably involves Chen Yonglin, given the timing.
The second individual apprehended on January 28th is accused of “defiance.”
Two individuals apprehended on January 29th, including another named Chen, are charged with concealing other offenses.
The legal representative stated the first person was detained to stop him from escaping Macau, while the remaining three are facing “other restrictive actions.”
