The Lithuanian gaming oversight body has imposed a penalty of €15,000 (£13,043/$15,897) on Amber Gaming for restricting a gambler’s wagering choices.
The regulatory body received a grievance from a gambler in May of this year, who alleged that Amber Gaming had restricted his wagering choices without justification. Amber Gaming, which operates the 7bet brand, maintained that the gambler had placed 279 sports wagers during the review period, and asserted that the data was not revealed in accordance with their procedures and processes.
The regulatory body then conducted an unannounced inspection of Amber Gaming and its adherence to regulations. The investigation was primarily centered on Section 18, Part 1 of the Lithuanian Gambling Act, which stipulates that remote gambling must conform to established rules.
These rules encompass clearly outlining the specific content of each wagering offer, the operator’s location, the terms and conditions of the wagers, and the operator’s capacity to provide special promotions to particular customer groups.
The regulatory body stated that Amber Gaming failed to furnish all pertinent data, as this information was deemed confidential. Amber Gaming also failed to present any evidence to substantiate the rationale for the gambler’s wagering choices being restricted.
Thus, the regulatory body determined that Amber Gaming contravened Article 18(1) of the Lithuanian Gambling Act.
Amber Gaming was penalized for transmitting two electronic messages to patrons between June and August 2022. These communications included instructions on establishing a password for their 7bet account. The emails contained direct links to the password creation webpage, along with banner graphics promoting the 7bet brand.
The authority stated that this action contravened Article 10(19) of the Lithuanian Gambling Act, which prohibits the marketing and promotion of gambling to consumers.
In February of this year, Amber Gaming was also levied a €6,000 fine for breaching Lithuanian regulations pertaining to gambling promotion.
As with all Lithuanian rulings, Amber Gaming has the right to challenge the decision.
